The NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme: Healthier You is delivered in Kent by Ingeus, in partnership with Leicester Diabetes Centre.  The programme identifies those at high risk and refers them onto a behaviour change programme.  Evidence shows that behavioural interventions, which support people to maintain a healthy weight and to be more active, can significantly reduce the risk of developing the condition.

The intervention provided by Ingeus comprises of thirteen sessions across ten months which empowers the patients to take responsibility for their own health decisions.  There are a number of positive case studies across the county from patients who have benefitted from the programme and who have had their HbA1c return to a normal level.

Many practices across Kent are already referring onto the programme, with over 5000 patients having been referred.  This is really positive, but with so many people at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, we need to continue to offer a referral to all eligible patients.  All practices are able to refer to the programme; the referral form can be found here.

More information about Ingeus and the programme can be found here.

If you haven’t yet referred to the programme, or have any queries, please email Michelle Whitham, the Kent and Medway STP Lead for the National Diabetes Prevention Programme.
