We have been holding a series of listening events about future plans for health and social care in Kent and Medway. Your feedback plays a vital role in shaping the development and delivery of these plans and we are beginning to build a picture of local needs and pressures on health and social care services.

Themes we have heard so far include:

  • Recruitment and use of staff/workforce
  • Care Homes – ensuring where they are and that they are included in this
  • Communication to all
  • Finance – is the resource enough?
  • The importance of working with voluntary and community organisations and their future sustainability
  • Transport – and the difficulties of travel to services
  • The importance of family and friends in a patients recovery
  • Support for the model meaning more care closer to home

Attendees want to see:

  • Better communication at all levels and with everyone
  • Partnership with organisations working together in a more joined up approach
  • Coordinated IT system
  • More personal care

Mental Health

  • More education is needed for all
  • More support services especially for family members
  • Signposting
  • Prevent gaps in service
  • Smoother transition from one team to another for a patient

Prevention/Health Improvement

  • More funding for prevention
  • Information needs to be local
  • Start prevention messages with children
  • Prevent mixed messages from clinicians

Over the summer the engagement team will be visiting a number of community events to share information about the plans and encourage more people to respond to the STP newspaper and survey.
